James Herriot Intentions
A few years back I announced I was standing down as Chairman of Masonhouse Manufacturing Ltd - but would remain as a Director and Shareholder. My aim being to step back from the day to day running of the business - but remain involved in the strategic planning and direction of the company, as well as mentoring the Pre-Production Team, also to engage in specific projects as and where these were deemed appropriate and of value to the business.
I’m here today to announce my intention to step back from the business and relinquish both my directorship and shareholding in Masonhouse Manufacturing Ltd after 40+ years. This is purely down to personal circumstances and reasons. Over the past few months I’ve had more involvement with the medical profession than I would have liked – I should add the outcome has been positive. But at my age (being in my 70’s) makes one stop and think long and hard about what is right for me, my family and the business.
I’ve stated on many occasions that I have a deep held belief that I have a responsibility to uphold in relation to all of you (our employees), also the Callerton retail network, as well as our many suppliers and service providers. Without the input and effort from each and every one of these - our business would not be viable. Hence all the many individuals involved in all the various and varied areas have played a vital role in making it possible for Callerton and Masonhouse Manufacturing to develop and thrive over the last 40+ years.
It’s important to state I’ve not made any sudden or rash decisions – having spent a great deal of time contemplating what is right for me, my family and the business.
As none of my family are, or intend involvement in MH/M - and in addition our illustrious Chancellor of the Exchequer (Rachel Reeves) has turned the world of pensions and inheritance tax upside down: The combination potentially has future negative implications for both the business and my family. Hence the decision to relinquish my directorship and shareholding to ensure these are resolved in advance.
I will leave Dawn and my fellow Directors to explain more as to the implications of my decision - but would like to emphasise that their plans for MH/M (going forward) have my total blessing and support. I would also like to stress the point: I will forever remain an avid supporter and ambassador for the business Gordon and I founded from scratch some 40+ years ago - and will remain available to assist as and when required.
Before finishing I would like to point out 3 areas which have enabled the business to thrive for 40+ years: The 1st being Team & Teamwork – no one person has all the skills required for the business to succeed, hence the importance of Teamwork. The 2nd relates to the ability to Communicate – today’s world revolves around emails and texts – talk and interaction remain vital elements in Callerton’s ongoing success. The 3rd is that of developing long-term mutually beneficial Relationships & Partnerships – further essential elements.
Finally a massive thank you to each and every one of you (both past & present) it’s been a blast and I’ve loved every minute. But now is the time for me to follow other passions: My Wife, Children and Grandchildren deserve more of my time. I’ve written a 3rd book - to be on the bookstalls later this year. A charity project I initiated requires more of my input and involvement. Also there are various holidays and expeditions to arrange and embark upon. So once again thank you for all your efforts and support (its’ massively appreciated) and I very much look forward to watching you take the business to new heights.
James Herriot
